Joe explains turning while doing a nunchaku handroll
When you are doing a handroll, the gyroscopic motion wants you to keep the chucks in a certain rotational path, it "wants" to stay going around in the same circle as much as possible. You have to learn a handroll first, which there are tons of vids on. Then, just let them drop if they drop, as you turn, feel the pressure on your hands right before they drop. How can you NUDGE it, so it doesn't drop, and you are moving where you want to go? It will take time and practice, but you will get it.

The nunchaku becomes a lethal weapon in the hands of a trained martial artist when there is good understanding of 'SEMMAE-WAZA'(attacking techniques).There are 16 basic directions in which any weapon can be directed.This includes all weapons like Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Kama, Nunchaku,Katana and the bare hands.The directions are similar to the directions in which certain animals strike. Like the Hebbi semmae which is the 'snake strike' will follow a circular path from above the head downwards ...like the strike of a cobra. The Ushi semmae which is the 'Bull strike' will resemble the downwards to upwards goring movement of a bull with it's horns. There are some strikes which are named from the mythical creature ... 'The dragon' where similar strikes for animals are not available. What you see in this video is a practise session with my senior brown belt students at the Karate park near The national Isshinryu karate headquarters at Besant nagar ,Chennai,South India. This was shot immediately after I trained them the practise pattern. Nunchaku tutorial // Some ways to turn during a freestyle
Read the description for help about each moves : As i said on the video; some moves aren't well performed because i need a bigger place than my room. But this tutorial is for a request and i have shown what i want for this. Maybe it could help someone else. Sorry for my poor English. 1 : Just do a horizontal spin above your head while you are turning and then do a strike. 1 + aerials : I like add this move after an aerial, it add some dynamism. There are just two example. 2 : It's like the first move but in the other direction. Just do a horizontal spin so your hand need to be beside your head, then do a strike. 3 : Start with a downward advenced 8, do the last spin of this "8 move" in your back and turn in the same time to do a spin above your head and strike. 3 + jump : It's exactly the same move. You just need to know how jump : Start to turn and jump with your left leg then with your other leg. You can lan on one leg or two. Landing on one leg will help to add a extra turn. 3 + 1 : Do the third move then the first move of this tutorial. In this video i just do two turns, but i prefer jump like for the "3 + jump" then add an extra turn, but i can't jump in my room... So it's better to do "3 + jump + 1" rather than "3 + 1". i hope you understand. It will be more beautiful and more easy to add speed in your body rotation. 4 : Start with a downward advenced 8 then put the nunchaku far in your back while you are turning. The other hand just need to wait on your hip to catch the nunchaku then do a spin above your head and a strike. 5 : Just do a neckroll and do a turn in the same time, then you can add a spin above your head and strike. 5 + one turn : Exactly the same move but you add an extra turn while you are spinning the nunchaku above your head. The most difficult is to turn on one leg (360°) then turn on the other leg (360° again). 6 : Just do a neck pass while your doing a turn then strike. You can do this move with a jump. 7 preparation : Do a downward advenced 8 on your side then do a upward 8 on your opposite side. To performe this move, you need to do only one advenced 8 then only one upward 8 then only one advenced 8 then ... To begin, do like in the video, try to do some advenced 8 then go without stop the move to a upward 8, do someupward 8 then come back to a downward advenced 8. Then you can try to do without repetition. 7.1 : Do the move of the "preparation" then turn on your left side while you're doing the upward 8. You will turn with no problem. 7.2 : Same! do the move of the "preparation" then turn on your right left while you're doing the downward advenced 8. 7.2 + 2 : Just do the "7.2" move and add an extra turn to do the "2" move. On the video i just do two turns, but it's more beautiful to do a jump on the second turn. As i said, i can't in my room... 8 preparation : Do a "downward handroll 8" on your right side then do an "upward handroll 8" on your opposite side. This move will be usefull for the "8.1" move. 8.1 : Just do some "downward handroll 8" and then do an "upward handroll 8" while you're turning. It's really easy if you can perform the "8 preparation" move. 8.2 : Just do some "downward handroll 8" then turn on your right side; just add a spin after your turn to restart some "downward handroll 8". 8.3 : do some "downward handroll 8" then do a "horizontal 8" while you're turning on your right side. You can stop the nunchaku under your elbow. 9.1 : Just do a "normal horizontal handroll 8" and turn during this move. 9.2 : do exactly the same thing but so a pass behind your back after your body rotation, then do a neck pass. 9.3 : It's exactly the "9.2" move but add an extra turn while you're doing the neck pass 10 : Just do a "downward horizontal handroll 8" while you're turning, then do a spin above your head and strike.

I've been teaching myself nunchaku for about 2 years. I've never had to opportunity to learn from anyone else, so I thought I'd upload this video to try and get some constructive criticism from the people that know what they're at. I've been working on this routine for a while, but could never record it perfectly - this one has a few minor mistakes in it, but I'm generally happy with it. Soulwire freestyle nunchaku lab 104 - creative spins
Man... Mega props to Chuck Nasty for his assistance with the middle lane. I have been totally neglecting that since day 1. After being consumed by spinning since Chuck posted the vid up (5 days ago), I've been trying to innovate and add more moves to my own set of skills. Totally inspired and working like crazy on this notion. I think I ended up with about 7-8 new moves this week. My spins will never be the same again, mega props to chucky man. You friggin rock! So most noticably is the redirectionals that spin in various angles now, where I would normally keep to face plane spins. It's only day 5 of working middle lane, so I still am a little limited in this center...just trying to get a feel for it. heheh.)..I'm trying to learn and let come out what feels most natural, and right now it seems to be a redirection between horizontal and vertical spins. I also have some catches where I grab the same side of the chuck (same side with the other hand). I am loving this concept (that spin down the middle)...it's opened up a brand new door... Oh and it's hard to see, but I do a figure 8 behind my back and end it with an aerial that goes between my legs (to the front). Anyways, I feel really friggin good! I have so much more to learn, but really think it's changing the way I spin! Comments, suggestions more than welcome.

Basic Freestyle Nunchaku Doubles Tutorial No. 2
The second in a series of three basic freestyle nunchaku tutorials. This tutorial covers wrist spins with doubles. It does not cover how to do a wrist spin, so if you can't do a wrist spin with single nunchaku, you need to learn that first. There are plenty of tutorials available (though none by me). Wrist spins are a very flashy and fun part of freestyle nunchaku. You want to begin by learning to keep your hips fixed, and then learn to move them with control and intention. Practice a full range of motion. As you extend the wrist rolls wider or higher, you may find that they transition naturally into other moves. This is the essence of freestyle.

4 new moves.. How many times have you accidentally caught the chain?? Yes, I've discovered a way out, so if you've ever caught the chain and stopped your routine for a moment, you have to check this vid out. 1) Chain catch - Will show you how to play off a chain catch and set the chuck back in motion. 2)This is a cool way to untie the X. 3) Over the shoulder aerial. It's a tricky aerial that is hard to manage! This might help manage it. 4) I don't know what the hell this is called. I just made it up. It might have been done before, I just thought it was creative. :) Enjoy! My bad, I know I said I had a few aerials..my battery ran out. :lol: Most important move in this vid is the first. the chain catch. If you haven't devised an escape, this one is a money shot that works!
